ACADEMIC ETHICS

This policy outlines the standards and expectations for publication of research on PRISM (Performance Restoration and Isolated Structural Modelling), HPAR (Harmonic Phrase Analysis and Restoration) and Virtual Audio Workstations, and related topics. This policy applies to the Virtual Audio Workstation website itself, and the videos linked within.

1

Context

The context of the website is an informal, academically-themed presentation of PRISM to a general audience. Some content is colloquial, generalised or (hopefully) entertaining. The intended veracity of content should be clear from its context, ranging from generalised conjecture to formally academic (and where so, meeting those general standards).

2

Honesty & Integrity

Research activities (subject to context) have been conducted ethically and transparently. Data, results, and methodologies have reported accurately, without intentional fabrication, falsification, or inappropriate data manipulation.

3

Originality

All of thes research presented here was performed by Evans. Some of the research presented here is derived from his two PhD theses, or other peer-reviewed material. Bill’s PhD thesis on Performance Restoration was submitted and accepted at Manchester Metropolitan University. His thesis on Virtual Audio Workstation was initially submitted, in part, at Glasgow University. It was formally submitted at Manchester Metropolitan University, and assessed to have been original academic research.

The other research presented here has been informally—but not formally—peer-reviewed. Within the context of the information characterised as trade secrets, it has not been publicly presented. Beneath each video, a date marks when the research was completed for the release of commercial songs or albums first using the research. Except for the loop-derived demonstration, all of the music and audio presented in the videos is directly from these releases, demonstrating the existence and efficacy of the research at that time.

Peer-reviewed academic presentation of PRISM will begin on Occtober 10, 2025.

4

Fair Collaboration and Authorship

Contributions to collaborative research should be appropriately recognised. Authorship must reflect actual contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the research. All collaborators must agree on the allocation of credit prior to publication or dissemination.

5

Responsible Data Management

Data that has been collected, analysed, stored, and shared was done so responsibly, in accordance with applicable laws and ethical guidelines. Sensitive information, including personal data of research subjects, has been handled confidentially and with respect for privacy.

6

Objectivity and Avoidance of Bias

Research that has not been formally peer-reviewed may be presented here without acknowledgement of bias or consideration of objectivity. This is generally done so in the interest of presenting research to a general audience, with a coherent narrative and reasonable duration. PRISM’s forthcoming, formal academic publications will address these topics.

7

Transparency and Reproducibility

All of the claims regarding the creation of audio are accurate to strict academic standards. While some of the research has not been published or peer-reviewed, its existence and efficacy is demonstrated in the public release of commercial music employing the respective research. For further veracity, all of these releases include prominent musicians, and include their knowledge and approval of the results.

The screen-capture demonstration videos are held to academic standards. Where relevant, the audio presented as being produced in real-time was done so during screen capture. The videos have been edited for time and clarity. Non-contextual, visual elements have been recreated (e.g., simplified cursor movements).

The PRISM audio plugins are publicly available (remotely) for testing to validate any and all claims made in the videos.

8

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence was not used to create to author any of the research presented here. (It was used, however, to create the audio.)

9

Citations

Both PhD theses, and Evans’ other peer-reviewed work is fully cited. The material presented in the videos which otherwise require citation are colloquial claims and implied conjecture.

10

Authorship of Presentation

The creation of this website and its contents was performed by a group of individuals. The website is produced by Celtiphonix.

11

Accuracy and Corrections

his website presents a large body of information. Statistically, there are bound to elements that have  not properly presented or are otherwise divergent from what they should be. If you see something that raises a red flag, before rushing off to Reddit, please let us know, and we will respond. There’s likely a good explanation. If there is not, we’ll make the relevant changes, and send you a fashionable PRISM t-shirt or stylish PRISM hat (seriously).
